The New York Times recently published the article, "In the Northwest, Hard by Canada, a Secret Is Out," revealing Birch Bay's booming popularity among vacationers.
Coniferous forests and rolling hills of the Pacific Northwest surround this easygoing beach town whose charm was once known only to Canadians and locals. But recently the laid-back resort town has become a hotspot for newcomers. Families from Western Canada, Western United States and empty nesters from all over the country are buying vacation homes in Birch Bay, and it's no surprise why.
Located one hour south of Vancouver, and two hours north of Seattle, Birch Bay is an accessible outlet from the city. Vacationers flee to their summer homes to revel in the small town ambiance of ocean-centered Birch Bay. The lack of cars fosters a relaxing environment where walking traffic prevails and tension ceases to exist. Restaurants, serving multitudes of shellfish, boast seaside open-air patios for the perfect sunset view. Shadowy beaches lead into the warm seawater where beach comers are found clamming, wading and enjoying the ocean''s serenity until all hours of the night.
A car drive away is Whistler, British Colombia, and Mount Baker, Washington, where vacationers can hit the slopes and be back in time for afternoon sailing. Only in Birch Bay can vacationers go from skiing to sailing in the same day!
The unique location, warm Pacific waters, wide-ranging outdoor activities and casual attitude of Birch Bay are no longer a secret. Birch Bay's popularity is on the rise.
